On a morning in late August
I was packing up my suitcase
full of things I cared to take
away from this place
On the last trip around
to catch anything I missed
I caught my reflection
and then I asked him this:
what am I doing out here
all my enemies once were friends
this voice inside my head
pleading to move on again
and as I looked around
there was nothing left here for me
and I could finally see it all so clearly
This place that I live is not my home
And I could see them
All the faces I've known
Their stares cold as ice; no compassion is shown
The places I've been are not my home
This house is a ghost; haunting me with silence
as punishment for years taken for granted
the rooms are too cold; the walls bleeding gray
I've built this prison all around myself
I'll never see the light of day again
Then the radio began to play "Awake"
The room filled with memory; brought light to my face
and even though the darkness would not stay away
It was then that I knew that home is not a place
